You might want to freehand but drawing first with a pencil or transferring your design into the wood first is a good idea, especially if you are a beginner.

Tip: Place the metal holder and tape into the surface to make it stable and avoid any accidents because otherwise it moves whenever you touch the cable.
Then let the woodburner heat up as instructed- and start drawing carefully. Not to fast not to slow, without pushing too much. You will feel the right way after a minute a or two. Burnt wood also smells great!
Refinishing furnitures!

You can turn a old piece of furniture into something new and bright with a bit of elbow grease and I am only talking about painting! You might find different opinions, different products and techniques around but I like to do it in in traditional way, especially if that's a glossy or varnished furniture.

Get a pice of sandpaper and sand down carefully the paint or gloss on the old furniture. Make sure to do it outside and wear mask or cover your mouth or nose with a scarf not to inhale the dust. this is the least fun at messiest part. At this point adding primer is always a good idea for better results with less sanding and for long lasting paint but as this one was a very small piece I sanded it well and I actually skipped that step, right away after cleaning the dust I started painting. First, I took some white acrylic paint and mixed it well with couple drops of black paint pigment to create darker grey and painted two coats. These paint pigments are very intense and could be mixed with acrylic or wall paint to get different colours, I find them very useful to create ombre effect but any darker colour of your choice would do the same job. After completely dry, I created the shape with masking tape (OK, I actually wanted chevrons but I ended up with these arrows which I am pretty happy with as well). The masking tape should be a very good quality one for clean lines otherwise you might need to paint the base and start over again. For lighter grey I simply added more white and mixed, painted with brush/foam paint roller inside the shape that I created with tape.

You can of course just leave it as one bold colour, freestyle if you are good in painting or create shapes with stencils as well, even decoupage , wallpaper or cover with fabric! Sky is the limit! Check out my pinterest board for more examples and inspirations for painted furniture.
If you never tried painting a furniture before it's easier than you think! Counting into the drying time, I'd say it's a perfect weekend project. Here is a close up as well. Hope it's useful and hope you will give a new life to an old furniture!

Make your own dairy free almond milk at home!

It's cheaper and healthier to make your own almond milk at home and you can have some almond flour as a bonus as well!
I'll admit that I always thought almond milk is a milk with almond flavour but recently found out that the only two ingredients you need are; almonds and water! Just soak the almonds overnight and the rest can be done in 10 minutes.
Don't worry about the exact measurements, a bit more water or more almonds doesn't make a such a big difference, but if you want it very intense just use less water. We make this on weekly basis and it's good in the fridge for 5-6 days.

Water (1 or 1.5 liters)

Raw whole almonds (1 glass-soaked overnight-between 12 to 24 h)

Blender

Cheesecloth (I bought mine at pharmacy- gauze bandage)

1tbs sweetener such as xylitol, sugar, stevia or vanilla extract (optional)

Ps: The size of blender we have doesn't really allow to mix all at one go, so I usually take half of the almonds and around half litre water to mix, strain and repeat the same with the rest.

I was looking for a cheesecloth to make ricotta cheese and we found this gauze bandage at pharmacy (without any smell taste or any medicines on it), I washed it anyways with warm water and it works just fine every single time for straining.

Here is how to do it very easily!

That's really all! The almond milk is good in fridge for up to a week almost, if there is any left after the first couple days! (Shake it before using each time.)

You can right away bake some goodies with the wet almond pulp that you have on the cheesecloth or dry it in the oven with 170 degrees for couple hours and store it dry to use later on. 1 glass of almonds makes about 1 glass or a bit less almond flour.

(If you don't have time to bake or make almond flour, you may keep it in airtight food container in the fridge for 1-2 days)

I hope you will try this at home and if you have any questions leave a comment below.

DIY: How to easily make cement planters

Firstly you need to go to your local hardware store to buy cement if you don't have some and get what else needs to be added depending on the type you are buying. Mine is not a ready quick dry one and needs sand and water additionally. You also need 2 different sizes of molds, preferably plastic ones: Big one will be the actual size of the planter and the small one is for shaping the the inside hole for soil. You don't really need to buy these, just look around for plastic buckets, old food containers missing the lids or you may have some yogurt packages in the fridge. Round shapes seemed perfect for those but any form you like it fine.

I followed the instructions in my cement package: first mixed the same amount of cement and sand together in the big mold (I actually took some sand from playground, while there were kids around!), then added some water slowly while mixing with a piece of stick until it's muddy but not very liquid. Check the proportions in your cement package for this step.

Once the mixture is ready place the small mold in the middle, push to the bottom carefully by leaving run at least 1-2 cm for the bottom part. It's hard to push at one go, try turning left and right while pressing- This small mold will create the hole for soil. You may want to put something heavy inside the small mold to keep it stable, like a a piece of small rock or whatever you have handy. Leave it to dry, mine took around 1-2 days,. When it's completely dry get rid of the cement molds and place you succulent plant with cactus soil. For different type of plants you may need a bigger hole for soil and taller planter than this ones.

It's super easy, industrial style, cheap, unique shapes for each planter! Can be used as jewellery bowl or bird bath as well!
Almond Avocado Smoothie

We spotted a very nice cafe in Chefchaouen square in Morocco and spent most of our last days sitting and sipping mint tea there. One of those days cuople backpackers we met in the hostel joined us and highly recommended this smoothie in the menu, the combination first sounded weird but we tried anyway. OMG! Yummy! Just yummy!!!

After returning back to home I took out the food processor and gave it a try. I used whole almonds and skim milk (0,5% fat), but ground almonds or almond milk would also work, for a vegan option use soy milk instead. We don't use white or brown sugar, if you are on a diet like myself or if you want a healthier option use xylitol, if not white or brown sugar is fine too.

First, place the almonds to the food processor and process for about 1-2 minutes, add the rest and keep mixing until smooth (peel off the avocado and take out the seed of course)! Ps: I used a bit more milk than shown in the photo as it was very intense for me, you may also adjust the ingredients depending on your taste.

Recipe is for 1 big glass, double or triple the ingredients for more servings.
I used photoshop before but it was for editing the photos and I and no experience with working with graphics until I started the blog. I had a huge help from my husband for the logo (he actually did it all with my directions) and first thing I made whole by myself with graphics was the cover image for Facebook page. It was an easy one and fun! Then I started to make a desktop wallpaper and I made couple more to share :)

Pumpkin Coconut Soup

There is only one pumpkin recipe in Turkish kitchen that I know, not surprisingly it's a very sweet dessert. After I moved to Poland I always wanted to try something different with pumpkin but never really checked any recipes in advance for some reason and every time in the shop I postponed the idea of buying one without having recipe. It went on like this for couple years and one day I just bought a pumpkin! With just a quick search I found many different recipes for this pumpkin coconut soup and that's the final version I come up with after several tries! It's ready in less than half an hour (preparation + cooking), healthy, quick and very yummy!!!
The very first post: Moroccan Tiles

I've started
this blog almost a year ago but it finally felt right to really start
posting after our Morocco
trip. Well, the blog is not really completed yet, some features may
or may not work at the moment but will be fixed as I lean more about HTML
and CSS :).

So, yes the
first blog post: Moroccan tiles! Me and my husband came back from Morocco couple
weeks ago and September was just the right time of the year for
everything. We mostly stayed in old medina hostels and walked up and down until
we got blisters in Fes el-Bali-a true maze where they also have the
oldest leather tannery in the world, ate all kinds of tagines and sipped sweet
Moroccan mint tea while resting in the squares and had a
refreshing fresh orange juice in Marrakesh square-Djemaa
El-Fna-where daily performance start in the morning with snake
charmers, henna artists, musicians and bargain
shows-street theaters until in midnight when 100 chefs starts taking
the food stands and grills from the square to bring back the next
evening. After seeing Ourika valley and waterfall we arrived to Ouarzazate-a quite town which had been the crossing point for African traders,
then we headed to the Merzouga to Sahara
desert and spend a night in a tent in Erg-Chebbi dunes, on the way back stopped in Todra
Gorge- a big rock after passing the green valley in between totally deserted
area. Our next stop was Essaouira-on the Atlantic cost where they have
a fairy tale like port and we had grilled fresh seafood and ended
out trip in Chefchaouen -a blue city for chillers in Rif mountains.
So in two weeks we've seen all we wanted to see in Morocco and I remembered to shoot couple photos
of Moroccan tiles for this post. Maybe I will share some travel
photos later on but I want this post to be dedicated to the Moroccan tiles.

I had a thing
for Moroccan tiles even before we went to Morocco. It's even one
of the reasons I wanted to see Morocco! When we renovated our
kitchen last year I wanted Moroccan tiles as backsplash but the
choices were limited and it wasn't really budget friendly here in Poland and then
we decided to go for subway tiles which I am also very happy with right now. But in Morocco, these beautiful tiles and mosaics are everywhere, in all different shape and colors! In every house and in
every corner, even in the poorest neighborhoods. Here are some photos and if you are interested in how there are being made, see the video at the bottom.
